A MISSING CHILD

Kaitlyn (Redcliffe Village M, 4) will ask you to find her missing brother Bevin. Now you can make a few decisions with Kaitlyn dealing with her brother, which can also raise or lower companions approval/disapproval.

You can tell them not to worry and that you will look for her brother which raises Wynne's approval by (+1) and Leliana's by (+1).

If, on the other hand, you tell her you'll leave her to her sniveling, Morrigan's approval increases by (+2). In this case you can still receive and complete the quest by talking to Bevin.
In order to find the boy you must travel to Kaitlyn's home (Redcliffe Village M, 10). Enter the room found to your right and approach the closet (Redcliffe Village M, 11). You can send the boy to his sister right away or you can ask him about his father's blade. If you play this all out correctly Bevin will give you a key to a chest.
Use the nearby staircase to get to the first floor and once you're there spend some time looking for the chest. Open this object using the newly acquired key and take the Green blade. You may now return to the Chantry (Redcliffe Village M, 12). During your final conversation with Kaitlyn (Redcliffe Village M, 4) you can ask her for a kiss and you can talk to her about the family blade. If you want to be a hero you can offer her payment for the blade or promise to return it after the battle. If you want to keep the sword for yourself don't mention it to Kaitlyn and stop the conversation after she's thanked you for finding Bevin.

Companion Approval for The Missing Child Quest

Once you return to the Chantry speak to Kaitlyn again. If you got the sword from her home you can mention it to her (and get a lot of approval changes).

Mentioning the Sword:
- Leliana Approval (+1)
- Wynne Approval (+1)

If you promised Bevin to pay for the sword and you tell Kaitlyn about this promise Alistair Approval (+2)

Paying her 5 gold (500 silver):
- Leliana Approval (+4)
- Morrigan Disapproval (-5)
- Oghren Disapproval (-3)
- Wynne Approval (+2)
Paying her 1 gold (100 silver ):
- Leliana Approval (+2)
- Morrigan Disapproval (-3)
- Sten Approval (+2)
- Wynne Approval (+1)
Paying her 15 or 50 silver:
- Leliana Disapproval (-3)
- Sten Disapproval (-3)

Thank her and give her nothing, or say No? Good.

If Sten is in the party he will state that The helpless need not ask what is deserved. The sword is valuable. Sten Disapproval (-10):
- If you have at least 1 gold Sten will give Kaitlyn one of your gold (pay 1 ).
- If you do not have at least 1 gold :
  - Alistair Disapproval (-8)
  - Leliana Disapproval (-5)
  - Morrigan Approval (+2)
  - Wynne Approval (+1)
If Sten is not in the party:
- Alistair Disapproval (-3)
- Leliana Disapproval (-5)
- Morrigan Approval (+2)

Tell her you’ll return it after the battle. She tells you to use it well and she’ll gladly take it back after the battle.

Note: After The Attack at Nightfall is finished you can talk to her again about returning the sword (or compensating her for it).

If you opt to pay for the sword, and then change your mind or accept Kaitlyn's statement that she could not take payment for it, you will receive these approval changes:

Alistair Disapproval (-2)
Leliana Disapproval (-5)
Morrigan Approval (+2)

Tell her it won’t go to waste:

If Sten is in the party he says such a thing of value should be paid for. You get the monetary choices listed above.
If Alistair is in the party he says you should offer her something in exchange. Alistair Disapproval (-3). You get the monetary choices listed above (Alistair’s disapproval amount is on top of any approval change made when you give Kaitlyn any money).
If neither Sten nor Alistair are in the party then Leliana Disapproval (-5).

After you have discussed the sword with her (or chosen not to mention it):

A male Warden can ask for a kiss from Kaitlyn as a reward for saving her brother, and approval/disapproval varies depending on whether or not the Warden is currently romancing a companion in the group.
- If you tell her you were only joking and not to be silly:
- If Leliana is at neutral approval, Leliana Approval (+1).
If you kiss her:
- If you are in a romance with Morrigan Disapproval (-3).
- Wynne Disapproval (-1).
If you tell her you were only joking and "a smile will do":
- Leliana Disapproval (-1).
- Morrigan will gag Disapproval (-3).
- Wynne Disapproval (-1).
Tell her Bevin was more trouble then he was worth:
- Leliana Disapproval (-1).
- Wynne Disapproval (-1).

After The Attack at Nightfall you can talk to Kaitlyn again.

If you promised to return the sword to her and you try to return it she says you can keep it. Alistair Approval (+1).
- If you offer to pay her for it:
  - 500 Silver
    - Leliana Approval (+4)
    - Morrigan Disapproval (-5)
    - Oghren Disapproval (-3)
    - Wynne Approval (+2)
  - 100 Silver
    - Leliana Approval (+2)
    - Morrigan Disapproval (-3)

  - 50 or 15 Silver

  - Thank her and give her nothing, or say "No? Good.":
    - If Sten is in the party he says the helpless need not ask for what is deserved. Sten Disapproval (-10)
      - If you have at least 1 gold he gives her 1 gold .
    - If Sten is not in the party:
      - Alistair Disapproval (-3)
      - Leliana Disapproval (-5)
      - Morrigan Approval (+2)
- Tell her to take the sword and sell it:
  - Leliana Approval (+4)
  - Morrigan Disapproval (-5)
  - Oghren Disapproval (-3)
  - Wynne Approval (+2)
- Thanks her and keep the sword.
If you didn’t offer to return the sword before the battle, or you did but did not mention it to her now, you can offer to help them get to Denerim:
- Give her 500 silver :
  - Leliana Approval (+4)
  - Morrigan Disapproval (-5)
  - Oghren Disapproval (-3)
  - Wynne Approval (+2)
- Give her 100 silver :
  - Leliana Approval (+2)
  - Morrigan Disapproval (-3)
  - Sten Approval (+2)
  - Wynne Approval (+1)
- Give her 50 silver .
- Give her nothing

No matter what you give her (if anything), she and Bevin leave.

Results

Other than the money you may lose, you will receive The Green Blade, a decent one-handed sword.
If you opt to return the sword after the battle it will be reported in the Epilogue that Bevin became a famous adventurer and told stories about how as a young lad, he met The Warden, who used his father's blade to save Redcliffe and then passed it back.
If Kaitlyn and Bevin are sent to Denerim with enough money, then the Epilogue will report that Kaitlyn and Bann Teagan eventually met in Denerim and married.
