BEYOND THE BASE GAME CONTENT

This article contains information on Downloadable content for Dragon Age: Origins. Some downloadable content can be purchased within the game with BioWare points, through the Xbox Marketplace, or through the PlayStation Store, while others were pre-order promotional items and can no longer be obtained. Which means some of those promotional items will not be available as BioWare shut down the servers.

BioWare originally announced during the final stages of the development of Dragon Age: Origins that two years' worth of downloadable content were planned for release. The planned DLC would include items such as rings and amulets, short adventures like Warden's Keep and full expansion packs with dozens of hours of new gameplay. With the earlier than expected arrival of Dragon Age II, Witch Hunt was confirmed to be the last DLC release for Dragon Age: Origins.

Here is the recommended order for purchasing the DLC:

Leliana’s Song

  • Leliana's Song is available for purchase on the Xbox Live Marketplace, the Playstation Store, and BioWare's site. It is also included in the Ultimate Edition.

  • A standalone adventure in which you play as Leliana during the mission—and betrayal—that changed her forever. It is years before the Blight, and Leliana is a young bard whose curiosities run more to passion than to the Chant of Light. Her mentor, Marjolaine, is determined to inflict the Orlesian game of intrigue on Ferelden, and Leliana is eager to please. It is a time of adventure and excitement. And it cannot last. Includes a unique reward called Battledress of the Provocateur (One of the best armor's for a rogue until you get towards end game) that transfers into your Awakening and Origins campaigns upon completing the DLC.

  • Playtime added: About 1 to 2 hours.

These next three you actually get to enjoy while playing Origins:

Return to Ostagar

  • Return to Ostagar is available for purchase on the Xbox Live Marketplace, the Playstation Store, and BioWare's site. It is also included in the Ultimate Edition.

  • Return to Ostagar features the return of the Warden to Ostagar. There, the Warden will discover King Cailan's armor (really good armor for your tank early on until late game), Duncan's weapons (good weapons early on for dual wield rogue) and the motivation behind Loghain's betrayal. In addition, Return to Ostagar will also grant the player a second chance at recruiting Dog, and one new achievement.

  • Playtime added: About 1 to 2 hours.

Warden’s Keep

  • Warden's Keep is a downloadable content that is available for purchase on the Xbox Live Marketplace, the Playstation Store, and BioWare's site. It is included in the Digital Deluxe Edition, the Collector's Edition and the Ultimate Edition.

  • Warden's Keep grants players access to the fortress of Soldier's Peak, a quest to unlock the mysteries of the fortress, two new talents/spells for each class from the Power of Blood school, two achievements, and various items. In addition, Warden's Keep includes two new merchants and a Party Storage Chest that allows the player to store additional inventory.

  • Playtime added: About 1 to 2 hours.

The Stone Prisoner

  • The Stone Prisoner is available for free on the Xbox Live Marketplace, the Playstation Store, and BioWare's website. It is also included in the Ultimate Edition.

  • The Stone Prisoner refers to the titular character of this downloadable content, Shale. In addition, the DLC also grants player access to the village of Honnleath, the abandoned dwarven Cadash Thaig, two new achievements, and crystals which act as armor and weapons for Shale.

  • Playtime added: About 2 to 3 hours.

These last few all take part after Dragon Age: Origins

Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening

  • Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening was the only expansion for Dragon Age: Origins. It was released for Windows, PS3 and Xbox 360 on March 16, 2010 in North America, March 18, 2010 in Europe, and March 19, 2010 in the UK. There are both retail disc and downloadable editions available. However, the PS3 version is not available at retail in Europe and can only be acquired via the PlayStation network (unless you buy the Ultimate Edition). Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening was released for Mac OS X on August 31, 2010.

  • This game takes part directly after Dragon Age: Origins, and furthers working on the Wardens and the relationship with Fereldan.

The Golems of Amgarrak

  • The Golems of Amgarrak is available for purchase on the Xbox Live Marketplace, the Playstation Store, and BioWare's site. It is also included in the Ultimate Edition.

  • The Warden has come to Orzammar at the request of Jerrik Dace. Jerrik’s brother, Brogan led an expedition into the Deep Roads to find Amgarrak and the long-lost secrets of golem construction. The rediscovery of such a method would bring great wealth, power and prestige to House Dace, but the expedition has not returned and is now feared lost. Jerrik, along with his trusty bronto, Snug, will be joining the Warden in the search for his missing brother. Players will find other unexpected companions as they continue on the journey and will need all the help that they can get. There are three new achievements, which will each unlock a unique reward (a necklace, The High Regard of House Dace, a mace, The Reaper's Cudgel, and a belt, Sash of Forbidden Secrets) that transfers into your Origins and Awakening campaigns.

  • Playtime added: About 1 to 2 hours. (It might take more time than this added playtime, as this is the hardest DLC for Dragon Age: Origins even on Casual mode)

Witch Hunt

  • Witch Hunt is available for purchase on the Xbox Live Marketplace, the Playstation Store, and BioWare's site. It is also included in the Ultimate Edition.

  • Witch Hunt is a downloadable content that explores the whereabouts of Morrigan, the Witch of the Wilds, who aided the Warden during the Blight. It is also the final downloadable content for Dragon Age: Origins. There are four new achievements, which each unlock a unique reward (a two-handed axe, Dragonbone Cleaver, a longbow, The Sorrows of Arlathan, a mage robe, Vestments of the Seer, and a belt, Cinch of Skillful Maneuvering) that transfers into your Origins and Awakening campaigns.

  • Playtime added: About 1 to 2.5 hours.

Darkspawn Chronicles

  • The Darkspawn Chronicles is available for purchase on the Xbox Live Marketplace, the Playstation Store, and BioWare's site. It is also included in the Ultimate Edition.

  • This downloadable content features a look at an alternate history: what if your character had died in the Joining ceremony, and the Grey Wardens marched under Alistair's command instead? The content is a standalone adventure in which you command genlocks, hurlocks, shrieks, and even the mighty ogres.

  • Includes a unique reward called Blightblood that transfers into your Awakening and Origins campaigns upon completing the DLC. There are three new achievements.

  • Playtime added: About 1 to 2 hours.

To even further enhance the story there are books that take place before Dragon Age: Origins and a movie.

The Stolen Throne

  • The very first media piece in the Dragon Age canon, The Stolen Throne revolves around the beginning years of King Maric’s reign and his attempt to overthrow Oreleasian rule in Fereldan. Written by David Gaider, the novel is meant to introduce the readers to the world of Thedas as well as explore the pivotal relationship between King Maric and Loghain Mac Tir.

The Stolen Throne also introduces Rowan, the warrior who would eventually marry Maric and give birth to Prince Cailan. The book takes place around 9:00, right at the beginning of the new age.

The Calling

  • As the second novel in the Dragon Age chronology, The Calling explores King Maric’s exploits with the Grey Wardens as he welcomes the organization back to the kingdom of Fereldan after a 200-year absence.

While King Maric journeys alongside the Grey Wardens into the Deep Roads, he develops close friendships with two wardens any fan of the series will recognize, Duncan and Fiona. The Calling establishes in-depth backgrounds for characters we rarely see in-game.

The Movie Dragon Age: Dawn of the Seeker

  • Cassandra Pentaghast was first introduced in Dragon Age 2 as Varric's interrogator, and greatly expanded upon as a companion in Dragon Age Inquisition. Between those though, she got a starring role of her own in the anime film Dawn of the Seeker.

  • It's a rather lengthy tale that is best experienced for yourself, though it features plenty of betrayal, over-the-top exploits, a Cassandra that doesn't quite look like Cassandra, and also elaborates on our hero's association with Divine Beatrix.

The rest of the books and comics take place after Dragon Age II and in between Dragon Age: Inquisition, and the last book takes place after Inquisition that leads into Veilguard.
